Historical Timelines of Brewing and Distilling in Sauk City, Wisconsin

As one of the earliest settlements in the state, Sauk City has a long and rich history. It was a popular destination for the massive German immigration that began in the late 1840s. And where you have Germans, beer brewing is sure to follow. Where the typical Wisconsin small town supported a single brewery, Sauk City had five. The local newspaper used the German language until 1929. The Leinenkugel brewery that we know of today had its origins in Sauk City. While the author's previous work on Joseph Schorer breweries only scratched the surface on Sauk City's four other breweries, this booklet covers all aspects of Sauk City brewing and distilling in great detail. Each brewery and the one distillery has its own timeline that highlights significant events in its history. Facts were derived from newspaper quotes, census and property records, advertising and maps. Obituaries are included. Today's return of brewing and distilling to Sauk City is also mentioned.
